NEW YORK — Even though iconic designer Valentino officially retired in 2008, the 79-year-old has no interest in slowing down.
“Retirement is for old people,” he said with a laugh Wednesday at an awards luncheon in his honor.
The Fashion Institute of Technology presented the Italian designer with the 2011 Couture Council Award for artistry during an elegant daytime soiree at Lincoln Center, which becomes home base for the next eight days for stylists, retailers and editors during New York Fashion Week.
“All my life I worked very, very hard and I didn’t have any other idea than to make women look sensational,” he told The Associated Press before the event.

Commercial shows like the one I just spent the last 4 days hosting at Pavillions Birmingham can be every bit as uplifting and inspirational as any London Fashion Week Show.
This is Valerie Pain at Close Models who is in big demandyou may have seen her already in my All Walks Campaigns.
The fact is women want to see great fashion to inspire themthis jacket and dress from this seasons looks at HOBBS went down a storm, and many older women commented that seeing Valerie rock the shorter knee length with 70 denier opaque black tights and heeled brogues inspired them to try shorter lengths too!

It takes a man with style to know that a navy blazer and pressed slacks are not the answer to all of life’s fashion questions. Evan Lawson (Paulo Costanzo) of USA Network’s “Royal Pains” is that man.
Costanzo describes his character as “playful, spirited, funny, boyish, charming, somewhat insecure, lovable, ambitious, entrepreneurial, sweet and without a clue.”
All of which somehow translates into an extensive wardrobe for a man who cares about clothes.
