Sue Heck from ‘The Middle’

December 14th, 2011 by Rose Burdett

Costume designer Julia Caston‘s wardrobe choices for middle child Sue Heck (played by Eden Sher) perfectly capture the character’s eternal optimism on ABC’s “The Middle.”

“Sue loves rainbows and unicorns,” Caston says. “She is exceedingly positive and always looking on the bright side of things. How I describe that in clothing is color and patterns. She also is not very noticeable – not noticed in her life – so I use soft pink or sad roses or florals so that she has her own young, innocent style. Sue dresses not like anybody else.”

Because Sue dresses a lot younger than other girls in their early teens, Caston shops all over to achieve her particular look, from refinestyle.com and Target to vintage and consignment stores in Los Angeles.

“There is a catalog I love for her called Catalog Favorites,” she says.

Clever Couture: Catwalk to highstreet

December 3rd, 2011 by Sebastian Heaton

Gucci epitomises glamour and this season, their jewel-tone gowns certainly delivered.

Thigh-high slits were coupled with slicked back hair and a garnet red lip to bring back the glamour of the 70s.

Touches of python, patent leather and fur upped the ante throughout the collection.

This emerald dress from Monsoon pays homage with criss-cross detailing at the neck.

It may not have the same cut-away exposure but all the more reason to opt for a pair of statement shoes.

These Perspex-heeled sandals from Topshop fit the bill nicely.

Deliciously similar to the cherry sandal by Tom Ford for YSL back in 2003, these will elevate your look to heavenly status.

The 70s look insists on an ankle- grazing, rather than floor-skimming hem length, so sky-high heels are ideal.

Strut with pride and a Studio 54 glint in your eye!
